T-Mobile offers WCDMA (UMTS) with HSPA+ 3G voice and data over most of their network, using the 1700 MHz (AWS) and 1900 MHz (PCS) bands. Their 4G LTE network uses bands 4 (AWS) and 12 (Lower 700 MHz). They also offer GSM/EDGE 2G service in the 1900 band. In 2013, they purchased MetroPCS and merged networks. Germany's Deutsche Telekom AG bought VoiceStream in June 2001 and re-branded it T-Mobile USA in the 2nd half of 2002. T-Mobile is Deutsche Telekom's global wireless brand. T-Mobile USA was the first company to offer a nationwide GSM network in the United States.
